Safety First

Rule One:  Wear safety glasses.

Rotating brushes, grinders, paint, gas, starting fluid, etc., can all ruin your day and eyesight.  If you have gone from glasses to contacts, you may not realize how much those specs were protecting you.  Also, don't forget UV-protective sunglasses and welding goggles.
This eye was not victim of an accident, but had the same sort of surgery, a vitrectomy, that you'd have if you needed some metal removed.  This is 3 days after surgery.  It feels about like it looks.

Two:  Good Ramps don't cost, They pay

Good ramps save time, broken bones and bent metal.  20 years ago we didn't want to spend $40 extra for the ramps when we bought the trailer. We paid $85 for some new ramps  while the pain was still fresh.  Have you priced a trip to the ER, lately?  Or some sheet metal?

Three:  If you have a ROPS (Rollbar), Wear a seatbelt

See above.  If you don't have ROPS, jump and roll.

Four:  Keep Fresh Fire Extinguishers

Check the gauge and give those dry chemical extinguishers a shake every now and then.  Check, too, for mud dauber nests in the nozzle?  Also, know how to use them.  Boy, we wish we had a photo of the time Miss Sandy tried to put out the fire on the Craftsman mower!  See rule #1.

Five:  Keep a good First Aid Kit

We're always scraping knuckles and burning or cutting fingers.  Usually it is very minor, but you never know.  Antiseptic, gauze, compresses and lots of bandaids are a good start.  How about antibiotic cream, sunburn lotion and bee sting-kill swabs?
